New: RHC Mentor and College Credit Initiative
T-Shirts
Riverdale Honors College is proud to introduce its new mentor program, designed to foster academic excellence and personal growth among its students. This initiative pairs students with teachers that they will meet with regularly. The mentors will provide guidance, support, and resources to help their mentees navigate the challenges of high school life, from managing coursework to exploring college and career opportunities. By building these meaningful connections, the program aims to cultivate a nurturing community and enhance the overall educational experience.
Additionally, we are implementing a new college credit program that aims to not only prepare students for success in college but also to help them earn college credits during their time at Riverdale. The goal is for Honors College members is to earn a minimum of 12 relevant college credits before graduation. This achievement can significantly reduce the undergraduate degree duration by about a year, save thousands of dollars, and enhance skills, making students more likely to succeed in college. While we do encourage all students to participate in the college course plans, it is completely optional.
A copy of all of the information presented at last week’s meeting was emailed to students on September 27.
There will be a parent meeting on October 22 at 6:00 pm in the main cafeteria. We will be discussing the mentoring and college credit initiative programs at that time. We will also be assisting sophomores to sign up for the December ACT. We would appreciate your attendance, especially if your student is a freshman, sophomore, or junior.
T-shirts will be given out in early November.
A big THANK YOU to MTSU for sponsoring them again this year.
MTSU STEM Field Trip
Regrettably, we will not be able to participate in an MTSU STEM event this year. However, all students who selected MTSU as their first choice in the college visit survey will still have the opportunity to visit the campus. On November 6th, RHC students can take part in a campus tour and attend presentations about the MTSU Honors College and its STEM programs. Keep an eye out for more details from Mr. Truax.

Community Service Reminders
A Few Photos from UT Southern
All RHC members are required to complete 20 hours of community service annually. The hours need validation from the activity sponsor, who must fill out a confirmation form in ink for the student to submit to the reporting form. Links for both documents are available on the RHC Community Service page.
Students under probation for the 23-24 school year must finish and submit their hours by the end of Fall break. Failure to do so will lead to their removal from RHC.
Community service hours for the 24-25 school year must be completed by April 30. Seniors who do not fulfill their hours will not receive an RHC graduation stole/cord.
If you need suggestions for community service projects, check out the options on the community service page.
